Mini Announcements

AS is constantly changing and updating with new things to improve the overall function of the site. That being said, not all changes warrant their own huge announcement, so this is a collective thread for all smaller announcements to better inform members as well as give a singular area to check back to. Another area you can refer to for updates similar to these is the Afflatus but visiting either thread works, so it is your responsibility to keep up with these changes. If you have any further questions, please contact any number of the staff we have around!

Literacy Announcement

Tue May 22, 2018 10:30 pm

  • Hello Scribes!

Now that summer break is approaching and we've got more time to dedicate to our writing, the staff figured it was time for a refresher of Advanced Scribes literacy requirements. A clarification of the rules was posted in the Announcements of the May issue of the Afflatus but it might've been missed in the hustle and bustle of busy schedules.

The literacy standard on Advanced Scribes is a preferred average of 300-400+ words per character. Exceptions to the rule can be made in cases where 3 or more characters are being used in a post, as that is an adequate amount of writing at that point. Roleplay Moderators are also willing to allow some breathing room of 200-300 words per character for instances of writer's block when you're really struggling to write. However, it should be known that if posts begin to consistently fall between 200-300 words per character, you may be contacted by a Roleplay Moderator in an attempt to help you get your word count back up. The majority of your posts per page should be well within the average word count. Anything below 200 words per character is considered illiterate.

Another important aspect of literacy on Advanced Scribes is the utilization of the thread symbols when creating a thread. The symbol system can be found in the Site Rules and must be present and accurate in order for the thread to be checked off.

These standards will be enforced across all roleplaying boards on Advanced Scribes, including the Explicit Board, and must be followed consistently in order to receive a check mark for literacy from a Roleplay Moderator.

As always, if you're having difficulties reaching the required post length, the staff is always willing to help! Reach out to an Attendant or Roleplay Moderator and they'll gladly offer any tips and advice.

    Thanks and happy writing,
    AS Staff

General Updates

Hey Scribes. After quite a few hours of unexpected downtime the staff has come together to push a few general updates so everyone is on the same page! For a few hours the site had been down due to an issue with how our current search is set up, but it is currently being resolved to make sure it doesn't happen again. That being said, we had quite a few people clueless and unsure of where to go so we encourage you all to go follow the official AS Twitter and Tumblr pages for updates that could be posted in situations such as these. It is a great way for us all to communicate whenever the site is down and shall be more active in terms of games and fun sneak peeks as well as writing inspiration. In light of all of this we have also decided to add on another day at the very end of the 100 Days of Summer competition for catch up if its ever needed to those who may have been affected by the downtime. Prompts otherwise will be continuing normally and will also be updated daily on the AS Twitter.
Thank you all for your patience and if you have any questions please feel free to message any one of the staff!

Search Problems

Hello Scribes. As some of you may have noticed, we have been having issues with the search around AS and the updating of posts in a user's posting area as well as in the 'my posts' section. This update is to just let you guys know that we are aware of the issue and it has been in the process of being fixed ever since the site went down. This is an ongoing issue and though there isn't a specific time set on when it will be fixed, do know it is an issue we have been working very hard to fix, it's just not quite as simple as most bugs as it resonates within AS' source. This means our lovely staff are incapable of fixing it on our side of the site, but we do have someone who has been working with the site for a very long time looking into it. All we ask is you be patient with us while we tackle it all and get your posts updating again. Thank you!

Hello Scribes. As many of you know we have been searching for new overseers to join our team. It was a pretty easy decision for us to make when our former Attendant Meraki came forth. He has been an ideal member to our team with a positive attitude and constantly contributing to the site above and beyond what was expected of him. Meraki has worked with overseer related tasks before but now we are making it official by promoting him to the role. Please direct any site functioning issues and queries to him and we hope you will all welcome him in his new role on the Advanced Scribes team!

New Introduction Board

Sat Jul 07, 2018 5:57 am

    • Image

Hello Scribes. As of this evening, a new Introduction Board has been created in hopes of preventing spam accounts from disturbing our lovely site. The original post that guides newly registered members is located here. New members will be required to create a thread and then give a small 'introduction' on themselves in it. Like is mentioned in the post explaining how to go about giving an introduction, they'll be required to also post in another individual's thread. With all of this set in motion, we should see the disappearance of any spam on our public boards! Thank you to anyone adjusting to the change and feel free to message a staff member if you have any questions.

Concerns

Wed Aug 15, 2018 2:10 am

Hi guys. As many of you know there has been a lot of backlash lately against recent changes. I've gotten many messages and posts from users pointing negatives out. While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I was very taken aback by responses today. There were so few positives, almost no compliments, nearly nothing but negativity and finger pointing and I have to say it's pretty alarming to see in such a tight-knit community where we're all supposed to be friends. Your frustrations and concerns will always be noted and heard, please don't ever feel like you've been ignored. Our staff may be small but we're all actively around as friends and helpers to note opinions and take you guys into consideration.

With the new theme in place, things quickly got overwhelmed. Standing less than twenty four hours we had users flocking and trying to get their points across but hardly anyone was reading what was being said. Questions were sometimes answered multiple times, solutions given, and an FAQ page made for user convenience but yet the same posts asking and bringing up the same things kept coming. We understand you all wanted a voice and to communicate and that is more than fine but try to talk with others and the staff rather than at them!

One thing that really came up today was the idea that users felt unheard, hushed, and unappreciated. It was really concerning to hear people talk so frustratedly like they aren't what keeps this site going, especially because view points are entirely skewed from staff to user. A majority feel as if they are not being heard and the staff make no efforts to communicate outside of announcements here and there; that this update and theme change was too sudden an unprompted, so here's a bit to explain. Users have been frequently told throughout issues, announcement, and general chatting that we were working to fix the site and issues present but it was a bigger task that would take time. Everyone was more than aware something would be happening eventually so long as they were active in discussion and kept up in announcements. Change was coming. Now 24 hours isn't a lot of time to prepare for that change even if you did have an inkling before, which really was out of our hands as our programmer had a very small window to complete changes. We could not control the timing any better no matter how much we wished to, however, we made sure to at least give a 24 hour grace period and kept updating social media throughout the process.

Communication was something we really tried for during all of this. All staff was on deck, social media was up, and right out of the gates we had threads and announcements up to hear your opinions and answer your questions. We wanted interaction and support and feedback more than anything! We were here eager and ready to listen and always are. All of our staff has something or another in their signatures always asking to message if there is anything you need or you wish to chat. We have an FAQ of who is responsible for what if you're confused, we're active on the forums as well. The staff puts so much effort into always being here and available and approachable for users but users should also try to meet us halfway. It has been gathered that many don't feel as if this effort is being put in.

Compared to any other site, job, community, etc we are far more communicative. I have never before been apart of a community so close and open. Advanced Scribes has always been a family and many of us can't understand where that is being lost now as it seems some feel very detached. It is okay to feel as you do, but don't hide it until it finally boils over! We are all always here and always checking in and we care about our userbase. All of us at one point or another were the userbase. There are countless threads for communication with staff (AS FAQ, The bugs thread, my coding corner, mini announcements, ask the staff) as well as 24/7 pms and means of reporting. We support you all and that support is immeasurable compared to elsewhere. We have never suggested otherwise and seek to remind you. This is a home, a family, a community. Trust each other, talk, feel free to bug staff constantly! I have to admit, we all love being bugged. We love helping and laughing and talking. Our poor Archivist, Ichor, her job is to talk and laugh and store memories of talking and laughing.

Picking out this theme and getting it up as soon as possible was all for you guys. We wanted something that the staff all loved and thought the members would adore too. There are so many customizable options yet to be explored, new features that make everything easier, and its all updated to add newer and better extensions you've been asking for. Right now its different and its scary and not the best shape it could be, but I spent 12 hours making sure everything would function and that you guys would have a site to come on. I was excited to give this to everyone and see thoughts and go from there. No the theme isn't going anywhere, but now with feedback I can go in and try to make it as comfortable and nice as possible. Trust me, you've been heard. My to-do list is immense and I love that because it means there can be more progress and growth. So please, we all ask for patience and understanding. Try not to dismiss all the hard work we put into making this site a better community and home for everyone. We are still trying to figure out the possible potential of this theme just as much as you all are.

That being said, let’s try and start over. Let’s work together the best we can because while the userbase can't make final decisions simply because it is impossible to please everyone and make everyone happy, we can listen and we can do our best to get close. So while all is being worked on thus far, start finding things you love about the theme. Find compliments and go message a staff member. Give them some love and talk back to us. Comment on announcements, hunt us down, ask us questions. Communication goes both ways. Thank you, I hope this clears everything up and gives some peace of mind. You all truly mean everything to us and we're happy to have everyone around on this journey.

Find us and join us for fun/conversation on some of these threads!
