(bottom char on that post)

1. Does your character have a habit or something that gives away when they are nervous?
She avoids fire all together, as it makes her nervous and fearful due to her past. She also will look down at her feet, scuff her feet, and hold an arm, if fire is not involved.

2. How does your character respond to stressful situations?
She hates to be stressed, and actually can get headaches. She’ll find a friend, or go to her parents to calm her down, though removing herself from the situation first is the first step, and a good one.

3. Is your character able to lie to others? Are they good at it?
No...She won’t talk about her past, but that’s not lying, that’s just not opening her mouth at all.

4. Name three things your character fears - is there one they fear more than the others?
Fire...
being alone
losing more loved ones, and friends

all equal, and it stems from her past.

5. Where would your character go if they wanted to be alone?
No where, she never wants to be alone...Well, her room, if she has a fight or argument with her fam, because the house is a safe place.

6. If your character could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?
She already has her wolf dog, Romeo.

(he’s in the post too)

7. Does your character prefer hot weather or cold weather? Or are they not bothered?
In between, though really hot seems to especially bother her, because of the fire thing...She doesn’t exactly like cold, either, unless it’s the middle of summer.

8. Has your character ever kept any kind of diary or journal? If so, why?
Not exactly, but she likes to write stories and fanfic in notebooks.

9. What would you character's dream wedding be like?
She hasn’t really thought about it...

10. What does your character think about kids? Do they want any of their own?
She’s alright with them, as she has little cousins. She hasn’t really thought about having kids, yet.

11. What's the first word that comes to mind to describe your character?
Gentle, or gracious.

12. Does your character have a distinct style of clothing that they always wear?
Kind of goth, I guess? She has tattoos and piercings, but those aren’t clothing.

13. Is there a particular skill your character doesn't have but would like to learn?
Foreign language, or public speaking. Probably public speaking, because of her shyness.

14. Who is the first person your character would tell important news to?
Her adoptive parents, plain and simple.

15. Is your character competitive?
Not really.

AS Afflatus 12: Character Interview Two

Wed Jun 06, 2018 9:18 pm

Naiella- daughter of Torso, from Tokyo Ghoul

1. Does your character have a habit or something that gives away when they are nervous?
Well, she has like...shifty eyes, I guess. If she’s nervous, she won’t really look at the person causing it, or just anyone in general if they are trying to have a conversation with her.

2. How does your character respond to stressful situations?
Well...she’s a Ghoul, so probably not well...She’s been nervous before, but never really highly stressed.

3. Is your character able to lie to others? Are they good at it?
Oh, she can definitely lie. She is a Ghoul, after all, and has to hide this fact from most humans. That’s basically lieing, if ya ask anyone. Torso taught her how to do it, when she was younger.

4. Name three things your character fears - is there one they fear more than the others?
Being killed...duh, no one wants that, not humans, animals, or Ghouls.
Being left alone, with no one to love her.
Losing her children, if she ever has any.

She fears these all equally.

5. Where would your character go if they wanted to be alone?
She and her father built a little hiding place in a thicket amongst trees, together. She’d probably go there if she wished to be alone, or run through the city until she got to the outskirts.

6. If your character could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?
She’d want a cat, and a bigger dog. More specifically, she’d want a heterochromatic eyed lighter furred kitty, and a big black Shepherd or Poodle.

7. Does your character prefer hot weather or cold weather? Or are they not bothered?
I don’t really think Ghouls get bothered by that, but she has to fit the part...So, somewhere in the middle, actually.

8. Has your character ever kept any kind of diary or journal? If so, why?
When she was little, because friends she’d made had them, and she thought it was interesting.

(trying to decide if she was homeschooled by Torso, because of what happened to her mother)

9. What would you character's dream wedding be like?
Obviously to the one she loves, but aside from that...Not huge and extravagant, something smaller but somewhere nice, with family and friends, and if she had her cat or dog, probably somewhere that would let them be part of it.

10. What does your character think about kids? Do they want any of their own?
She really likes kids, she thinks they’re fun and adorable, and some can be quite creative. She does kind of want one or two, but as stated above, she fears losing them.

11. What's the first word that comes to mind to describe your character?
Ghoul...jk. Caring, or maybe mouse, i don’t really know why but probably because of her mask and hair.

12. Does your character have a distinct style of clothing that they always wear?
Not really, well...i guess usually kind of tomboyish. She wears a lot of grays and whites, or black in winter to appear more human like. She also likes hoodies, and camo.

13. Is there a particular skill your character doesn't have but would like to learn?
Hmm...Probably speaking another foreign language. She knows Japanese and English, but has Arabic, Russian, Irish, and Egyptian friends, who can’t speak their own language when speaking to her.

14. Who is the first person your character would tell important news to?
Her father, as he is family.

15. Is your character competitive?
Not really, unless some new Ghoul is encroaching to try and take her prey, or vying for the best hunting grounds.

AS Afflatus 12: Prompt

"You had one job. All you had to do was live."
Letie sighed as she looked at the other woman, shaking her head. “Really, Sari... I thought you had more sense then this...You had one job. All you had to do was live. All you were asked to do was seduce your way into that house, then let us in that night...It’s beyond me how you could actually die.” the lighter haired woman snorted, looking down at the still, Indian woman. Shaking her head, she dove her hand in, curling her fingers and crushing...something.

Sari gasped as her breathing started, eyes flashing open and darting about a moment, finally landing to pause on the light haired American. Letie tsked, shaking her head once more, then put a hand on the other woman’s head. “Now, let’s try this again, shall we?” she said, blowing into Sari’s face then backing away, pulling her up. “Go back to Conrad’s house...And do try not to die this time.” Letie huffed, walking away from her.

Sari pulled a cloak about herself, going to change dresses and keeping the cloak. She headed back to the Hanley residence, quite relieved to find the older man wasn’t there. He’d been the one to, well... take her out. Conrad greeted her return with overwhelming joy, exclaiming “Sari, where have you been!?” She squeakied at his hug, smiling and kissing him on the cheek. “Doesn’t matter, I’m back now.” That night, she let her colleagues in, warning “Don’t lay a hand on Conrad...” “Fine...” Letie said, and they did what they came to do, keeping their promise and leaving without touching Conrad.

    • issue twelve. 2018.
      char. interview two
      CHARACTER INTERVIEW
      • james vincent becket. cherry kisses au.
        i. does your character have a habit or something that gives away when they are nervous?
for the most part, he's terrible at hiding the fact that he's nervous about something. he'll be unable to sleep at night, his mind racing a million miles per hour. he's often found pacing and wandering around with no destination in mind as he glances around him as if he's expecting someone to jump out of nowhere and attack him. he won't say that he's paranoid... but he's a little paranoid.
ii. how does your character respond to stressful situations?
if a situation is more stressful than anxiety-inducing, he'll prefer to be somewhere outside, whether he's just sitting around on the ranch somewhere or driving around in his truck. whatever allows him to avoid conversations with people.
iii. is your character able to lie to others? are they good at it?
yes, when he needs to. depending on the situation, he may be relatively good at it. but if he's obviously caught red-handed or off guard in general, then he is a terrible liar, stumbling over his words--nothing coherent leaves his mouth.
iv. name three things your character fears - is there one they fear more than the others?
a fear that he always has in the back of his head is becoming fully colorblind. right now, he has moderate deuteranomaly colorblindness (muted colors - yellow/green appear redder, violet and blue are difficult to distinguish from each other), which is stronger in his right eye. he doesn't want to lose the colors that he can see now. he also fears that he won't be able to help support his aunt and uncle with the ranch. in general, he doesn't want to attract unwanted attention in his small yet suspicious town, as he fears something will happen to his aunt and uncle.
        v. where would your character go if they wanted to be alone?
usually, he'll just grab a horse and go riding around the ranch or along the dirt paths that lead to hiking paths and the like. alternatively, he'll jump in his truck and drive around to clear his head.
vi. if your character could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?
maybe he'll adopt a dog of his own one day. but for now, he lives on a ranch, so he's often surrounded by (farm) animals and doesn't really feel the need to acquire any more.
vii. does your character prefer hot weather or cold weather? or are they not bothered?
neither extremes bother him. though if the weather is warmer, that tends to suggest that it's spring or summer. those seasons are his favorite considering harvesting along with beautiful sunny weather. so, he might lean more toward warmer weather where he can and will be found outside a lot as opposed to be bundled up and stuck inside.
viii. has your character ever kept any kind of diary or journal? if so, why?
not really. he does have a notebook where he took some notes about the murders and other suspicious activity that's been taking place in his little southern town. he never really took any interest into what the newspapers or rumors said until one of his cousins was found dead in a ditch. so, yeah. he keeps a notebook that he rarely updates (and that's a good thing).
ix. what would your character's dream wedding be like?
something small and traditional, perhaps. maybe at the local church, but lowkey... he wouldn't object if the wedding were to take place in a grassy meadow with the dark forest contrasting in the background in the early morning or late evening so that the sun is near the horizon for the soft lighting. he's a hopeless romantic when it comes to that sort of stuff.
        x. what does your character think about kids? do they want any of their own?
for the most part, kids are okay if they're somewhere between the ages of nine and eleven--that's usually when the kid is old enough to take care of itself for the most part, but doesn't have the annoying teen vibe. so, he likes kids as long as they don't hang around forever and bother him, but still have that bright spirit and imagination about them. maybe one day he'll have kids, but he doesn't really think about that sort of thing right now.
xi. what's the first word that comes to mind to describe your character?
nostalgic. he's definitely one to reminisce back on old times, especially at any given moment. the first impression of him that people often observe is that he instantly feels like someone that they've known before--like amnesia in reverse. a stranger, and yet they trust him.
xii. does your character have a distinct style of clothing that they always wear?
he doesn't wear anything too stylish or fancy for the most part. throwing on a nice shirt or a flannel with black or blue jeans--that's usually his go-to. maybe even a leather jacket of some kind with a baseball cap or snapback. so it ranges from an average college guy who's semi-stylish to a complete ranch boy. it depends on how he's feeling, and sometimes he mixes it up.
xiii. is there a particular skill your character doesn't have but would like to learn?
how to ride a motorcycle, probably. he's driven dirt bikes before when he was much younger, but not recently, and those aren't motorcycles--he's never touched one of those. he's biked before when going to elementary and junior high school, but his old bike hasn't been touched in years and is sitting somewhere rusted and collecting cobwebs for sure. problem is, motorcycles can be expensive, and even if he were to get a bargain on a used one, he doesn't think that spending money on this sort of personal want is necessary at this moment.
xiv. who is the first person your character would tell important news to?
alex, and then his aunt margaret, probably. if it's really good news, he'll tell the horses about it. gotta keep them informed and stuff, you know.
        xv. is your character competitive?
yes. more often than not, his pride gets the best of him and he can't help but accept a challenge. however, generally speaking, he's pretty chill and has gotten better at avoiding conflict.

Prompt -- 1015 words

Thu Jun 07, 2018 4:35 pm

ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS LIVE.

Warning -- Avengers: Infinity War spoiler.

    • It was cold. Terribly so. She didn't know where she was. Some from of fresh hell, but she always imagined it would be hot, not frigid cold like this. Perhaps this was the true afterlife - the place you go in between heaven and hell when the universe does not know where to put you. Or perhaps this was where you went when you were part of destroying the entire universe. She felt guilty for being the reason Thanos got the sole stone and thus, would be the reason he would take over the World. She never wanted that, or at least, not anymore. Her ideals and visions used to match his - she admired her adoptive Father and wanted to be just like him. She wanted to sit by his side when they accomplished their goal and watch the sunset. That was their life plan. But as time went on, things changed, and she grew to see him for the monster he really was. How ironic was it that she and Peter both had the same realization of their maniac father's. Believing for a time that they were nothing short of a hero, but then learning the harsh realities of what their intentions were.

Gamora had faith that even if Thanos won, the group of heroes meant to protect the universe would be able to fix it. She didn't know how, perhaps with the time stone or some other magical aspect, but she knew they would all be okay. She knew that Peter would be dust for a short time, but would return alive and well. But here she was, stuck in this godforsaken, snow-ridden, and freezing cold place. One she knew she wasn't getting out of. This was the price she had to pay. She was finally getting what she deserved after serving beside Thanos for so many years. The others deserved to be okay. Gamora believed she did too, having cleared the blood from her ledger long before Thanos returned, but the universe must have thought otherwise. But it was okay, as long as the others were safe.

Nice going, Gamora. You had one job. All you had to do was live. she told herself, the recent vivid memories of Thanos' sacrifice haunting her. She knew by now he would have accomplished his mission. He was powerful enough with the stones he had before he retrieved the Soul Stone as well. She tried. She tried to stop him, tried to sacrifice herself in a way that wasn't beneficial to him. She even asked Peter to end her life if Thanos caught her, knowing that she had the power to give the mad Titan what he wanted and he would do anything to get it. She asked him and he did. He pulled the trigger; but it was too late. Thanos had the upper hand and caused the bullet not to fly, making sure that his daughter didn't die here. Not because he wanted to save her, but because he wanted her information. But Peter kept his promise. And for that, she just loved him even more.

I told you to go right.
I love you more than anything.
      I love you too.

Peter. Her heart hurt thinking of him, or maybe it was because her body was frostbitten and frozen still, making breathing difficult and her chest hurt. She bet it was a bit of both, Gamora wishing that she could be beside him now. She wondered what he was doing. She hoped he wasn't grieving too hard, but she knew that was false hope because their love was stronger than those damn stones that Thanos wore in his glove. She never believed in love before him, but slowly Star-Lord, the legendary outlaw, taught her otherwise. He climbed his way into her cold, dead heart and made it beat again. Figuratively, of course. She wished he could do that for real.

She didn't know how long ago it was when she hit the hard stone bottom of chasm. The moment she did she was torn from the world and taken somewhere else. This wasn't heaven. This was worse than hell. There was no way to tell time so she could have been there hours or days. She assumed it was the latter, this feeling like it was never ending - and it probably would be. She was in limbo, awaiting to see what the world would do and if anyone would come to find her. Whatever place this was, it was cold. Freezing snow and sleet with frigid temperatures. But she couldn't die, because she was already dead, or so she guessed - so she suffered the torture of the freezing temperatures, laying there half buried in snow, half unconscious, and just waiting.

Her body lay encased in a heavy layer of snow, part of her face being visible, but was slowly beginning to cover as the chilly wind drifted the snow heavier around her. Gamora was certain she would die here, if she wasn't already dead - she didn't really know how any of this worked. But suddenly, she felt warmth. At first, she thought it was her imagination playing tricks on her, getting ready to finally let her body die and hopefully find some sort of peace. But then she felt it again. Something warm, familiar, pressing against her cheek.

And then she heard him. His voice cutting through her own loud thoughts and blistering wind. Speaking her name as if he was calling her. She wouldn't have believed it was him, guessing it was just her sub-conscious, but he was touching her. She recognized that touch; his calloused hand cupping her cheeks gently. Gamora was too weak to speak, to weak to move, but she wanted to know this was real. She had to do something. And when she opened her eyes, she was in his arms, Peter looking down at her with fresh tears pooling in his orbits. She always loved his eyes; bright blue and beautiful. Alive.

All you had to do was live.
      And she did.

CHARACTER USED: Rasmus Nordskov
x
Does your character have a habit or something that gives away when they are nervous?
xxxRasmus often fiddles with his jewellery when something makes him feel anxious. Be it his ring or necklace, the man won't keep his fingers off of them once the situation goes wrong. If his accessories were left inside of his ship, Rasmus will also click his tongue in order to stay alert. He also likes pacing when he's nervous.

How does your character respond to stressful situations?
xxxFairly well. Having lived for over a millennium, Rasmus had his fair share of stressful events and they all left him with a lot of invaluable experience, which he uses to this very day. He isn't the one to panic at the idea of something going wrong. Despite his cheerier attitude, the man takes his voyages seriously and does everything he can in order to keep people from getting hurt. Rasmus does turn more aggressive whenever something is getting out of hand and it's not unusual to see him lash out at someone.

Is your character able to lie to others? Are they good at it?
xxxHe is. Sailing in a dangerous ocean and confronting a variety of thieves requires him to possess a quick tongue and a stealthy mind. Even if Rasmus considers himself to be a truthful man, he doesn't refrain from telling one or two lies to his crew in order to make them feel better. He's definitely not prone to doing it very often, though.

Name three things your character fears - is there one they fear more than the others?
xxxLike most vampires, he fears the sun. Because of the nature of his crew, they sail mostly during the night, avoiding being caught in the open after sunrise. His second fear is letting his crew down and putting them in danger, which could have been avoided. Rasmus doesn't want to be seen as incompetent, but he also fears to be responsible for the deaths of his friends and companions. However, the man's greatest fear is being unable to continue sailing. His true love is the ocean and being separated from it would absolutely destroy him. Rasmus isn't the one to be named a coward, but he does stay aware of his surroundings most of the time. He dislikes his fears, however.

Where would your character go if they wanted to be alone?
xxxUp to the crow's nest, definitely. Rasmus values his privacy and while the other sailors respect his wishes, it can sometimes get unusually rowdy on the deck. Being away from the others gives him space to think and plan the following day while also getting some rest from his usually chaotic men. It's one of his favourite spots.

If your character could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?
xxxRasmus already has one; a tamed wolf named Lupus. While he's more of a cat person, having a feline on board was often shunned by his crew and the lot opted for a dog instead. If his current pet wasn't there, the man would most likely choose a bird as a new companion. But it would definitely not be a parrot. Most likely a hawk.

Does your character prefer hot weather or cold weather? Or are they not bothered?
xxxBeing a vampire makes him indifferent to the weather. As long as it's not sunny outside, Rasmus can roam the seas in the North and somewhere near Africa without caring about it too much. Though, he prefers to keep close to the South because of the trading ports there and people being more welcoming to their unusual crew.

Has your character ever kept any kind of diary or journal? If so, why?
xxxHe still does. Ever since he was turned into a creature of the night, Rasmus has dotted down his experiences and findings of his new life. With time passing by, it also became a journal of notes regarding his voyages around the world, so now it also serves as a reminder of how to sail the perilous oceans and stay alive.

What would your character's dream wedding be like?
xxxHe would prefer to not have one. The sea is Rasmus' one true love; being separated from it would make him incredibly upset. Settling down with a wife in order to have a few kids and give up his life as a pirate isn't something Rasmus would look forward to. He also doesn't want to think about giving up sailing because of his immortal nature; finding a human wife would be impossible because of his inability to grow old and die together with her. Rasmus stays single because he adores it like this.

What does your character think about kids? Do they want any of their own?
xxxDespite his supernatural nature, Rasmus gets on fairly well with kids. He doesn't necessarily like them, but the vampire isn't mean to them, either. He will play with them if he's invited to but generally prefers to ignore them until they notice him. The man doesn't want any of his own, however, as they would only force him to settle down and live a boring life away from the sea. And he doesn't want that to happen. He doesn't mind taking care of someone else's kids or being chosen as their godfather.

What's the first word that comes to mind to describe your character?
xxxMysterious.

Does your character have a distinct style of clothing that they always wear?
xxxHis clothing is unusually flashy and colourful for a pirate, however, the man likes to stand out and make others fear him. And it seems to be working quite well for him.

Is there a particular skill your character doesn't have but would like to learn?
xxxGetting rid of his weaknesses as a vampire would be more than useful for him. Rasmus wishes to experience walking underneath the sun once more, but he can't do that without risking turning into ashes and disappearing with the wind. Apart from that, he'd love to learn how to use a crossbow or any other ranged weapon.

Who is the first person your character would tell any important news to?
xxxHis crew. There is no one else in the whole world that he would prefer to keep updated about his personal lifestyle than the handful of vampires chosen to sail with him. Though, if Rasmus knew who his maker was, the man would definitely be very close to the mystery person, as most vampires are with their creators.

Is your character competitive?
xxxQuite a bit. Rasmus likes demonstrating his skills and he loves taking everything into his own hands when the time is right. He also likes being right about something.

  • "Is it really so hard, is it really so difficult, to do the one thing asked of you?" Dohmnall lifted his hand, immediately slamming it down on the table, glaring at the woman across from him, whose chin was lifted in a tone of defiance.

"Don't get pissy with me, Reid," she hissed, eyeing him cautiously in case he struck out against her. Wouldn't be unlike him to do it, either, so Ailsa had to hold her guard up.

"You had one fucking job, Harlan. All you had to do was live." Held up a single finger for emphasis on that point, too, practically snarling at her. "And you couldn't even do that right!" He was screaming at her at this point, but it didn't evoke a response of fear from her like it would've had it been anyone else. No, Ailsa took that as a downright challenge.

"I made it through to the end of the attack, Domhnall. Now, please. We have wounded men and women, and since you don't give enough of a shit, I'm going to go take care of them. I'm still here, still breathing. Don't treat me like I'm dead to you." Half turned her back on him to make her way out of the room, only to be stopped by his hand roughly grabbing her shoulder and forcing her to look at him.

"You're not alive, Ailsa. Check your fucking pulse for me and tell me that you're still alive. Tell me, bitch, how you managed to get through and the only casualty was yourself. You're turned, you let yourself get turned. I don't give a shit about your spiel of heroic courage and sacrifice. I told you no casualties. You were my best fucking fighter against those monsters, only for you to make it out just like them yourself." There was no found cure as of yet, but Ailsa wasn't going to let the fact that she'd been turned change anything at all.

            • 1. Does your character have a habit or something that gives away when they are nervous?
There aren't any particular habits/signs that give away when Valerius is nervous. He's good at pretending to be completely calm and relaxed, so the only way anyone would be able to tell that he's actually nervous is to know him well, which most people don't. If someone knows him, they might notice small, very subtle signs; perhaps his smile appears a bit more forced than usual, or his tone is a bit louder and harsher than usual, or he chuckles more than usual.

              2. How does your character respond to stressful situations?
He tries to control them right away, and will react badly if he is unable to do so. He's not the kind to break down under extreme pressure, however; if anything, he tends to feel even more motivated to solve things fast if they stress him out significantly. He works well under pressure, really, but still absolutely loathes any stressful situation that he can't control.

              3. Is your character able to lie to others? Are they good at it?
He's perfectly capable of lying to others, and he's very good at it too. Rarely a day goes by without him lying in some way or another, and they're rarely harmless white lies either. His entire identity is a lie at this point, what do you expect?

              4. Name three things your character fears - is there one they fear more than the others?
              - Being made tranquil
              - Being imprisoned, with no chance of ever getting out
              - Losing his memories/amnesia

Being forced to undergo the Rite of Tranquillity is his worst fear. Honestly, most, if not all mages probably fear being made tranquil, and he definitely isn't an exception. The thought might be the single most terrifying thing in the world to him. Being imprisoned is a rather uncomfortable thought too though, he would literally rather be executed/kill himself than allow someone to lock him up until he dies of natural causes.

              5. Where would your character go if they wanted to be alone?
If Val really wanted to be alone, he would most likely shift into his animal form (black sparrowhawk) and just fly off to a place the average human being couldn't (easily) reach.

              6. If your character could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?
Honestly, he'd just get a black sparrowhawk. He thinks they're gorgeous, elegant birds and most definitely wouldn't mind having company while he's in his animal form.

              7. Does your character prefer hot weather or cold weather? Or are they not bothered?
He prefers the cold, but can make do with both. The main reason Val dislikes hot weather is being sweaty, which is much less of a problem when it's cold. He also likes the cold since his favourite magic is winter/ice magic, so he feels more "at home" in the cold.

              8. Has your character ever kept any kind of diary or journal? If so, why?
Val did write down some of his dreams for a few years. He usually scribbled them down hastily on old sheets of paper at 3 AM, right after waking up. They were all rather dark and unnerving, rarely more than seemingly incoherent rambles that would look like complete nonsense to outsiders. At this point in his life, he has burned all of those 3 AM "dream notes", however.

              9. What would you character's dream wedding be like?
Something traditional and elegant. An exchange of vows with only family and close friends, and after a wonderfully organized party to celebrate the occasion with other guests. A nice dinner, some good wine, decent music and a dance that every person present will remember forever. He's already had that wedding with his wife, and he does think it's a shame that they can no longer be together, but he's over it already. Surprisingly enough though, Val enjoys reminiscing about his wedding. It might just be the one memory his dark, fucked up mind, heart and soul cherish.

              10. What does your character think about kids? Do they want any of their own?
Valerius really doesn't like the kids of other people. More often than not, he finds them annoying and has very little patience for whatever childish things they get up to. That being said, he would certainly be more tolerant of his own kids. He has entertained the thought of having a child with his wife in the past, but any plans regarding offspring were buried the moment he left to join the Venatori.

              11. What's the first word that comes to mind to describe your character?
              Cunning, or manipulative.

              12. Does your character have a distinct style of clothing that they always wear?
Valerius definitely dresses a lot like anyone would expect a Tevinter mage to dress, although he has adapted an almost modest style in the past years (modest for a Tevinter mage at least). His style is elegant and simple; mage robes, or robe-like clothes, usually hooded and long-sleeved, with tight pants worn underneath and a pair of sturdy boots. He favours dark colours, especially black. Val also prefers his clothes to be made out of soft, yet resilient materials - fabric, or even soft leather at times. Either unicoloured, or with a very subtle pattern. Add some golden jewellery - a few rings, or an amulet of sorts - and you got yourself Valerius Magia. One outfit I found that would totally be his style is this one, actually.

              13. Is there a particular skill your character doesn't have but would like to learn?
He's fascinated by Rift magic and definitely wouldn't be opposed to dabbling in it eventually, but since it's known to be pretty... unpredictable and difficult to master and hasn't been around for too long, he hasn't gotten around to it yet. Other than Rift magic, he also is interested in gaining more knowledge of shapeshifting magic.

              14. Who is the first person your character would tell important news to?
Nobody, really. His business is his business, and his business alone. Before Val joined the Venatori, he shared important news with his mother and his wife (and his father before he died), but now he just keeps to himself and rarely shares anything with anyone. It most likely wouldn't matter to anyone but him anyway, so why bother?

              15. Is your character competitive?
Yes. He likes proving himself and enjoys showing off his skills immensely, and doesn't take nicely to anyone doubting them. He enjoys challenges, as long as he deems them to be worthy of his time. An eating contests isn't, but a test of magical talent certainly is, for example.

characters: valerius magia (here: varas sempronia), avitus decius, unnamed slave
              warnings: murder/death + violence/gore + torture + slavery = dark stuff
              1,083 words
              x

"You had one job. All you had to do was live." There was contempt in his voice and darkness in his eyes, lips pulled up into a degrading sneer that gave away just how little he cared for the gasping elf on the floor. The man was writhing in agony, pale skin littered with cuts and bruises of varying shapes and sizes. "It appears you can't even do that right." There was no mercy in the mage's pale eyes as he watched the other suffer, keeping enough of a distance as to not soil his boots with the blood trickling out of his wounds and onto the stone floor.

Trembling lips formed words and the elf spoke, his voice weak and frail, barely above a whisper. "F-Forgive me... master. Please." Varas, however, was entirely unmoved by the desperate plea for mercy. The elf stared up at him with pained eyes and tear-streaked cheeks one slim hand outstretched towards the man who stood before him, as though he was going to offer help.

But the mage merely tilted his head to watch and observe the other as he struggled to breathe. He was near death, the warmth pouring out of him in steady streams of blood. "Don't look at me like that," the man stated coldly, shaking his head with another disgusted sneer. "You don't deserve my mercy, elf. You have no one to blame for this but yourself."

A shudder passed through the dying man, his body convulsing as it desperately clung to life. Varas' eyes left the struggling elf, his attention drawn to the sound of steps. They grew louder the closer the person came, and before long the mage was joined by a familiar face, a tall man clad in dark robes much the same as his. There was an expression of mild surprise on Avitus' face as their eyes met and he halted in his tracks momentarily. After what could have been a second or two at most, the blond's gaze dropped to the bleeding man on the ground. There was a moment of silence, only interrupted by the desperate gasps and soft sobs of the elf.

"... Oh my, what happened here?" Avitus approached carefully, his gaze slowly shifting from the broken form of the elf, to Varas' cold, indifferent face. "Varas, correct me if I'm wrong, but... isn't this one of the slaves intended for the ritual today?"

The dark-haired mage turned away from the slave, completely disregarding his very existence to focus on Avitus instead. "Indeed he is. Although," Varas glanced back at the elf, who had grown almost suspiciously quiet, "I fear he will not be able to fulfil his purpose anymore."

The blond hummed to himself quietly and stepped towards the slave, seemingly unfazed by the blood on the ground as he bent down to inspect him. He was still breathing, the rise and fall of his chest barely noticeable, but when Avitus lifted his head up, his eyes stared right through him, unfocused and cloudy. The man was clearly more dead than alive at this point, just barely holding on and possibly not even truly conscious anymore. "You know," the tall mage mused, sneaking a glance at Varas, "the Elder One won't be happy about this. Why did you do this to him in the first place?"

Varas gave an exasperated sigh and shook his head. "I know, I know. But I don't take kindly to liars, or thieves." He could see the way Avitus raised an eyebrow at the word 'liars', mild amusement shining in his eyes. Thankfully he remained silent and did not comment on the irony of the other Venatori's words. "What did he do exactly to deserve such harsh punishment?"

The mage stepped closer to Avitus and glanced down at the elf again. "In the past week, supplies have gone missing. Some food, as well as medical supplies. Of course, when I asked the slaves responsible for handling those supplies, everyone denied that they had to do anything with it and that they had no clue where the supplies had gone." Varas turned away and began to pace in a circle around the elf and the other man, his pace slow and controlled. "However, I caught this one stealing bread, elfroot and bandages today. He wasn't even supposed to be anywhere near the supplies; as far as I recall, he was brought in with the sole purpose of being sacrificed in a ritual eventually, as he was too weak and frail to do much else."

Varas stopped across from Avitus and met his gaze. "I admit that I might have gotten a bit carried away, but I wasn't happy about being lied to. This disobedient dog had it coming since the day he decided to steal from us." The blond gave a slow nod, looking back at the elf. "You were a bit harsh on him, I suppose, especially since he would have been sacrificed later today anyway. However, it wasn't just an act of senseless violence, so if anyone asks, I will be on your side."

Brown eyes flicked up to meet his pale ones again. "But, the other slaves, weren't they lying too? I'm sure he didn't just keep those supplies to himself, right? If he didn't have access himself, someone must have let him in, too." Varas' lips quirked up into a little smirk. "Indeed. Say, aren't we missing a sacrifice or two now? I might have a few candidates in mind. If we pick out the right ones, the others will think twice before disobeying orders again."

Avitus gave a soft chuckle. "Varas Sempronia, you are a horrible person. I suppose that explains why I'm so fond of you." The man reached for the dagger attached to his belt; the cold steel glinted ominously in the flickering lights of torches. "But yes, I do believe we are a few men short. How about yo go on ahead and round your candidates up, and I will join you once I've cleaned up this little mess of yours?"

Varas inclined his head. "Gladly, Avitus. I'll see you down in the slave quarters once you're done here." With that he left, carefully moving around the bloody puddle on the floor and away from the gruesome scene he had made. The last thing he heard over the sound of his own steps was the sickening noise of steel gliding into flesh and a weak, startled gasp, and then... silence.

              Dead silence.
