1. What are your character’s thoughts and feelings about the supernatural? This kid has been kidnapped by alien octopus people and possessed by demons. He has no qualms about the supernatural.
2. Does your character see themselves growing old with a spouse at their side or do they have different plans? At the moment, the only thing he has on his mind is saving the world from an evil dragon goddess. Anything else is a luxury he simply can't afford right now.
3. What is your character’s favorite book? Does his spellbook count? If not, then Austorith and the Sea Drake.
4. If your character had to relocate somewhere in the world, where would it be and why? Out in the sea along the Sword Coast, with the wind billowing in his hair, the sun on his face and his dragon flying overhead.
5. What does the word ‘family’ mean to your character? XD interesting question. Family has two meanings to him. There's the family that you're born with, such as his mother and the father who abandoned them, both of whom he loves. Then there's the family you choose for yourself, such as his fellow riders. All of them are equally important to him.
6. Has your character ever had a broken heart? Did they trust that person again - or would they? He's 16. He hasn't had a broken heart yet. (Lots of broken bones though.)
7. Does your character have a spiritual side? Nah.
8. How would your character cope in a crisis? He's incredibly logical. After being kidnapped by the illithid, much of his emotional response was damaged through trauma and as such, whenever faced with a conflict tends to disassociate when coming up with a solution. He guages all the possible outcomes and chooses the path that has the least setbacks, even if it may not be the most morally correct.
9. Your character’s thoughts and opinions on the word ‘forgiveness.’ He used to be a very forgiving soul, but not so much anymore. While he doesn't have a set number of 'chances' once he decides he's finished trusting you, it's over. For some, that's one chance. For other's, it's numerous. It all depends on his demeanor towards you.
10. What does your character think about when they are alone? He doesn't really have a set something that he thinks about. He could be thinking about the looming threat of Tiamat. Maybe about his time in the Underdark with the Mindflayers. He might be thinking of his dragon, or new spells he's going to learn. He has a very active mind when he's alone.
11. What is the one thing your character dislikes about their life? How about never having a heckin chance to rest and always being on the run or being hunted down or going on quests?
12. If your character came into money, what is the first thing they would do? He'd construct a golem.
13. If your character were immortal, how would they feel about it? He'd dig it. He'd take that infinite time to learn every spell in existence.
14. Is your character a coffee or tea person? Or neither? COFFEE.
15. What does your character dream about? A world free from Tiamat's wrath. A world where he and his friends can be safe, and can live in their home at Okarthel. And a world where the Dragon Riders of Bahamut are no longer at the edge of extinction.

Character Interview: Shane Walker.

Sun Oct 28, 2018 7:18 am

      • xImage Image
    • Character rundown: A post-apocalyptic world in which Shane, a marine and former cop, is the second-command of a mildly large group six years after everything fell. He is known for being tactically smart in and out of tough situations and usually the first to respond.
xxxOne. What are your character’s thoughts and feelings about the supernatural? If by 'supernatural' means ghosts, vampires etc, then they don’t exist in his opinion so he doesn’t bother thinking about it. Walkers (the living dead) are just humans plagued by a deadly disease to him, not considered supernatural.
xxxTwo. Does your character see themselves growing old with a spouse at their side or do they have different plans? Definitely having someone by his side. Before the apocalypse, Shane was married for fourteen years to a woman he had dated since his senior year in high school. Now, he's in a relationship that he hopes will go as long or more.
xxxThree. What is your character’s favorite book? All Involved by Ryan Gattis.
xxxFour. If your character had to relocate somewhere in the world, where would it be and why? He’d probably go to Italy or New York because he’s been both places and likes them enough to live in -- that is, if he had to leave the thought of returning to Georgia behind.
xxxFive. What does the word ‘family’ mean to your character? Everything. He thrives on family and it’s his number one motivation. Blood, or not.
xxxSix. Has your character ever had a broken heart? Did they trust that person again - or would they? Yeah, but it was his fault. The trust mended after a while. But, if it isn't his causing, it takes him some time to come around and trust again.
xxxSeven. Does your character have a spiritual side? He does now. Not six years ago. It has been something that has had a constant ever-presence in his life, though. From the field, to various AA or VA sessions, to his wife even being a believer in God. Her influence came late but he thinks it came around at the right time in his life. Shane views it as the closest way he can still connect to her.
xxxEight. How would your character cope in a crisis? He copes.. Okay with crises. He doesn’t talk much about it/them, but it obviously affects him during his downtime. It doesn’t, however, affect his behavior in public. Shane’s pretty much clear headed when it comes down to it. Before, he was a big drinker so that used to be his go-to but he's been on the sober side lately.
xxxNine. Your character’s thoughts and opinions on the word ‘forgiveness.’ It's something he can live with or without. Depending on if it’s family, a close friend or not -- and what they have done.
xxxTen. What does your character think about when they are alone? A variety of things. Sometimes nothing, sometimes his work.
xxxEleven. What is the one thing your character dislikes about their life? There’s a lot of big and little things he doesn’t like about the past and what he’s done but presently speaking, he doesn’t like the abnormality of the apocalypse and yearns for that suburban simplicity again; for his family mostly, instead of himself.
xxxTwelve. If your character came into money, what is the first thing they would do? He’d spend it on his family, most likely.
xxxThirteen. If your character were immortal, how would they feel about it? He wouldn’t like it. The thought of immortality is something he doesn’t feel comfortable with. Death is better than living forever in his eyes.
xxxFourteen. Is your character a coffee or tea person? Or neither? "Black coffee all the way. Creamer? Sugar?" He scoffs, amused. A smile stretches his lips. "Nah, man. That stuff is for pussies."
xxxFifteen. What does your character dream about? It’s often nightmares of what he has experienced in Iraq and Afghanistan or in the apocalyptic world he lives in now but sometimes, if he's lucky, it's complete silence.

Breakdown:
1. Antagonist - Voldemort (Harry Potter)
2. Protagonist - Rand Al'Thor (The Wheel of Time)
3. Opening sentence - "Never does a star grace this land with a poet's light of twinkling mysteries, nor does the sun send to here its rays of warmth and light." (The Legend of Drizzt)
4. Setting - The Underworld (Percy Jackson and the Olympians)
5. Genre - Fantasy (The Lord of the Rings)

Never does a star grace this land with a poet's light of twinkling mysteries, nor does the sun send to here its rays of warmth and light. For this was the Underworld. And Rand Al'Thor was dead. The tall grasses that stood around his transparent body that lay in the field were still and silent. Strange...there should have at least been a rustle. He's lain in fields before, gazing up at puffy white clouds that rolled over him. They swayed and danced in the breeze, with the wind on his face. But there were no such skies here. Only the cavernous ceiling miles above, which churned with a subterranean storm. That shouldn't have been possible. Unless.... red hair fell over his icy eyes as he pushed himself upwards, pressing fingers to his temples. Remembered now. Voldemort's killing words ripping through the storm above the surface. His scream of defiance, an arcane power that was ripped from inside him, leveling everything around them. Did he kill them both? Was this it?

He stood, shakily, and looked out over the vast fields that seemed to stretch on for eternity. He could feel his sword at his side, the hilt shaped like a heron. The darkness that surrounded him was inky and thick, like smoke that lifted up off the ground and surrounding him. He closed his eyes, focusing on the One Power and light materialized in his palm, illuminating the opaque figures that surrounded him. Women. Children. Men. Elders. They drifted about, their eyes glassy and forward, passing through one another with little care for what happened around them. He knew exactly where he was. The Fields of Asphodel...but if he'd died, why come here? Or was his part in the war really that insignificant? Difficult to believe, unless he truly wasn't the Dragon Reborn. A wind rustled the back of his neck. His sword was in hand as he stood, spinning around, eyes narrowed. A woman stood amidst the tall grass. One half of her body was black like obsidian, the other pale as polished marble. A white, billowy dress danced around her feet, an ebony shawl draped around her shoulders. "Who are you?" Rand asked, stepping forward. "Can you help me? Mat, Perrin...I must get back to them, please." She didn't answer. Merely gazed at him for a moment longer, before drifting off into the fields, a trail of mist following her. Rand stayed his feet for but a moment, grating his teeth. He couldn't be dead...after everything Moirainne said, he couldn't have just..died. There was more he had to do. And this woman could help him. Giving a breath, eyes narrowed, he started forward, stepping through the Fields of Asphodel as he followed the ghostly woman.
