              • 1. How would your character feel about babysitting?
noah is basically a big kid himself so he fits right in when presented with children. despite his apparent less-than-responsible nature, he's surprisingly good with babies and young children and would not hesitate to say yes if someone asked him to babysit for them. he used to watch the neighbours' kids during the summer when he was in high school and although he would pretend to complain about having to 'work' when it was the holidays, he did really enjoy it.
                2. If your character had the chance to take the place of any character in a book, who would it be?
admittedly he hasn't read a great number of books - he's too easily distracted and doesn't have the required attention span to make it through an entire book most of the time. when he was younger he always wanted to be a superhero from one of his comic books but nowadays with everything going on he's started to realise that maybe having that job really isn't worth the stress and danger that comes with it.
                3. What does your character aspire to be?
once upon a time noah would have answered this question with "a photographer", but after seeing the bigger picture of what things are like in the world around them and how mutants are treated a large part of him aspires to make some sort of difference in that regard - even if it's just helping to get the ball rolling in some way. he wants his life to be worth something, and to do something that he can be proud of.
                4. What are your character’s goals for the future?
at the end of the day he just wants to be happy. regardless of what he's doing or what happens on the way there, as long as he finds happiness he will be content.
                5. How does your character handle resolutions?
if we're talking in terms of sticking to decisions that have been made, not always too well. noah can be pretty impulsive at times and easily forgets what's been decided on if he gets swept up in a moment. with regards to a problem of some sorts being resolved, he's usually just incredibly relieved that it will (hopefully) no longer be there weighing on his mind.
                6. What is your character afraid of?
his biggest fear is losing someone he cares about because of a mistake he has made - noah never wants to let people down and he's terrified that some day he'll mess up and it'll be at the cost of one of his friends' or families' lives. which links into his fear of ending up alone with nobody left. he's also not big on being trapped/restrained/confined in any way, too used to being free to move around at his own will thanks to his powers. and for all the tough talk he puts out there, he's not a fan of clowns or spiders although he tries not to make that common knowledge.
                7. What is your character reluctant to tell people?
noah likes to put on an act of generally being a pretty happy-go-lucky kind of person who isn't bothered by much, so he's usually reluctant to admit what he's afraid of to anyone. he doesn't want them to pity him or try to reassure him about them because that just means he has to think about them more and he'd rather not do that.
                8. What is your character’s major flaws?
definitely his impulsiveness. he doesn't try to not follow instructions or listen to what he's been told but if he sees a situation where he can help noah will jump in to intervene without thinking about the consequences of what he's doing. he's also not always the best at concentrating when he needs to but he has been getting better at it lately.
                9. How does your character handle confrontation?
it entirely depends on the context for the confrontation. generally speaking he can mostly keep a level head and even gets kind of sassy and talkative at times, but he won't hesitate to use his fists if he needs to. if it's with someone who has hurt someone he cares for, oh boy. his anger will tend to get the better of him in those situations and he prefers to throw punches first and ask questions later - he's definitely turned up with cuts and bruises after meeting someone under those circumstances.
                10. What is something your character can’t stand?
people arguing over stupid things, especially if it's regarding a decision being made about what's happening next. noah likes to be doing something whenever he can be so when people hold that up by needlessly arguing it starts to irritate him pretty quickly.
                11. Who is someone your character can’t stand?
william. cassandra. any of the others who believe in and follow their chaotic cause. he's all for changing the relationship between humans and mutants but what they are doing to innocent people, and to his friends, is unacceptable.
                12. Does your character have any allergies? Are they life threatening?
a few minor allergies to the odd thing here and there that if he eats it irritates him and makes him feel a little unwell, but nothing terribly serious. he's also dumb enough to know that he's allergic to these things, but eats them anyway because he likes the taste despite knowing he'll suffer for it.
                13. Is your character religious? What religion? How strictly do they follow it?
no, he's not religious at all. he finds the ideas of certain religions pretty interesting but his family never followed one in particular so he wasn't raised following one, and hasn't found one that he's chosen to follow for himself.
                14. If your character could redo a moment, what would that be?
there isn't a really "big" moment he'd want to redo since in the past there hasn't been anything hugely drastic that he'd want to undo. maybe the time he climbed a tree on a dare and proceeded to fall and break his arm, if he had to pick one thing, since he still gets pain in it from time to time ever since that happened.
                15. How does your character show their significant other affection? Their friends?
noah is a very physically affectionate person in general. with friends and family it can be as simple as slinging an arm around someone's shoulders or ruffling their hair. he also tends to show his friends affection through jokes and messing around, pulling pranks and the like. hhugs too are a thing he enjoys a lot especially from certain people (*cough* lyra *cough*), he finds them incredibly calming and being able to hold someone in his arms like that is an extra reassurance and a comfort to him that they're alright.

              • 1. How would your character feel about babysitting?
hazel doesn't have strong feelings either way about babysitting - she would do it happily if she needed to and can cope decently with young children. it's not something she has a great deal of experience with but she'd be more than willing to give it a shot as long as she was left with sufficient instructions/a routine or some kind.
                2. If your character had the chance to take the place of any character in a book, who would it be?
anyone who had a decent relationship with their family and a normal childhood to be honest. she never ached to be the hero of a story as so many people do, she just longed to have a decent family who would love her.
                3. What does your character aspire to be?
herself. she spent so long being forced to hide who she really was and being shamed about it by her family. ever since she ran away from them she's been trying to really find herself and be the person she wants to be rather than what anyone else wants from her.
                4. What are your character’s goals for the future?
she wants to end up living a "normal, boring" life with someone she loves and doing something she enjoys - preferably something arty if she can manage it. there has been enough chaos and upset in her life already and the idea of being able to settle down and wake up to the person she loves (who loves her back) is something she hopes will happen eventually.
                5. How does your character handle resolutions?
hazel always tries to stick to her word if she says she's going to do something and tends to get upset if she has to break a promise she's made to someone even if it's for reasons outwith her control. she's often good at coming up with solutions to things and suggesting them to other people, making her feel pretty good if a problem is resolved thanks to one of her suggestions, but mostly just relieved that it's in the past and dealt with.
                6. What is your character afraid of?
her family are a big one, especially her brother - it's thanks to them that she's also not great with loud noises and sudden (angry) shouting either, usually getting a fright if she's caught off-guard by it. heights, crowds, and hospitals are all pretty high up her list of fears too for various reasons, and she likes to actively avoid them as much as she can.
                7. What is your character reluctant to tell people?
about her past with her family and how things were, or the fact that she ran away. she's spent so long trying to forget about it all and put it behind her, to stop it being a part of who she is, that she doesn't want to talk about it ever if she can avoid it. she's also afraid of being judged or having someone look at her differently once they know the truth - plus just in general she finds it incredibly difficult to talk about it without a sense of anxiety creeping up on her.
                8. What is your character’s major flaws?
her struggle to trust people she doesn't know well makes things tricky for her - she's pretty jumpy and nervous around people until she sees something that lets her know she can trust them. she can also be too quiet and withdrawn at times, reluctant to speak up or talk back because a part of her is conditioned to still expect bad repercussions for letting her own voice be heard.
                9. How does your character handle confrontation?
not well at all, it stresses her out a lot. hazel is a peaceful soul who doesn't want more conflict in her life. she's always been the type to run from confrontation, using her powers to help her hide when necessary, when things start getting on the more physical or violent side. that being said, when it comes to verbal disagreements or confrontations she may try to step in as a mediator of sorts to try and diffuse the situation provided it isn't too hostile at that point, but for the most part she tends to stay out of it as best she can.
                10. What is something your character can’t stand?
loud or too much noise, or an atmosphere that is too "busy". she starts to get overwhelmed in those situations and struggles to keep herself calm and focused on what's happening.
                11. Who is someone your character can’t stand?
her brother, simon. william. cassandra. all of them are people who have hurt or manipulated her in some way and she's terrified of them all.
                12. Does your character have any allergies? Are they life threatening?
she has hay fever which only really tends to bother her during the summer months. she's also mildly allergic to strawberries and oranges, both of which make her feel ill if she eats them or irritate her skin if she touches them but that's about it.
                13. Is your character religious? What religion? How strictly do they follow it?
her parents were both christians and tried to force it upon her, using the bible to back up their reasons she was a "freak", which put her off of religion almost entirely. she isn't opposed to religion as a whole but she's certainly distanced herself from it all as a result of that.
                14. If your character could redo a moment, what would that be?
sometimes she wishes she could redo her decision to run away, that maybe things might have gotten better if she'd stayed and kept trying to impress the people who abused her. it's a mindset she knows is wrong, though, and she's trying to get out of it and realise that getting away from them was the right decision. to be honest she wishes she could redo her whole childhood, ideally with a different family.
                15. How does your character show their significant other affection? Their friends?
showing affection is something that hazel is still always learning and figuring out. she tends to show it through actions rather than words mostly - making a cup of tea, helping out with a task. she's always been touch-starved to a degree and has gradually been realising that she loves physical contact with the people she trusts, although she's very shy about the fact and is slowly but surely throwing in more small physical displays of affection around her friends.

She could barely recall the events leading to their capture. Even though bandits were often camped near the roads leading into some of Aden's notable towns or cities, truly few of them could ever pose a serious threat. The groups lurking just outside of Breka's Stronghold had proven more than elusive when it came to ending their gruesome hold on travellers or merchants. Maybe she had been too confident, naively believing that a couple of sheltered dark elves from the Kingdom of Elmoreden could achieve what the local guards had been unable to. And now, they had to pay for her decision, leaning against one another inside of an encampment, not even knowing their current location. Perhaps for the first time in her life, she was truly afraid.

"My Lady?" His voice reached her and made the youth flinch, painfully straining their bound wrists. "Is everything alright? Your heartbeat sped up."

"I am fine, Inawynn," she replied with a silent grunt escaping her lips, keeping her eyes trained on the cracked wall in front of them. No guards kept any focus on the pair, visiting them only when food was to be delivered to the prisoners. And that suited her just fine. "Can you get our restraints off?"

"They are magically reinforced, but I can try," his reply was quiet, indicating more questions were on his mind. "Do you have any injuries, Princess?"

Slowly, her eyes wandered to her blood-stained clothing. Even though they had managed to kill a couple of the bandits before they were overrun, some of them had been lucky enough to trace their blades across her armour, leaving deep gashes on her stomach and forearms. Blood had seeped into her undershirt and now the material was clinging to her skin, painfully tugging at the sore wounds whenever she moved. It wasn't the most life-threatening of injuries, but they brought just enough discomfort for her to feel irritated. Chuckling somewhat bitterly at his question, the silver-haired youth couldn't help leaning her head against the man's shoulder, aware of his calloused fingers tugging at the ropes binding the two together. She felt let down.

"Just a few scrapes," it was nothing like the truth, but she had always disliked people worrying over her. "Nothing a potion or some spell cannot fix."

A quiet chuckle followed her words, earning a roll of the youth's dull eyes as she patiently waited, sighing in relief when the rigid pressure on her wrists disappeared. Not wasting a second before she pulled away from him, the silver-haired maiden rose from the ground before he got a chance to help her up. Even as a relieved smile appeared on his pale lips, she couldn't help feeling uneasy; for the past few hours, he had done nothing but made sure that she was comfortable and alright physically, not suffering from the injuries they both shared. Grey eyes looked at the taller male with something akin to pity and kindness reflected in them, a timid smile appearing on her lips. She hadn't seen it before, but her friend was drenched in red. Everywhere.

She had been greedy. Only focused on the honour that would await them in the town of Giran once they returned from getting rid of the bandits. In her blind rage and determination to gain the locals' respect, she had fought courageously near the stronghold, hacking at their enemies, without sparing a glance at her companion. And now, the black-haired male was standing in a puddle of crimson, leaning heavily on the nearby walls with a pained smile on his lips. She didn't know what came to her first; the guilt or the fury that coursed through her veins, but it was enough for her to grow restive and dip into the curse laid upon her at birth. As her hands clenched into tight fists, she barely noticed the startled gasp coming from the guard behind her.

Turning around, she all but growled at the unsuspecting human, launching herself at the metal gates separating the youth from her newest victim. She had always expected humans to be foolish creatures, but backing away and leaving the key inside the lock was something the youth could have never thought of; as the gates swung open in front of her, she couldn't help that predator smirk crawling onto her lips, grey eyes shimmering with a thirst few could understand. It took less than a second for her to pounce on that unlucky bandit, sinking her thumbs into his eyes before the guard even thought about drawing his blade, his screams of agony muffled by her knees against his throat as they crashed to the ground. Fighting a newly blinded human had its own rush; the guard swung wildly with his blade, eager to catch and pierce the youth, who had rendered him nearly useless with her nimble and quick fingers. While any logical and even slightly empathetic beast would have decided to end his misery, she refused. Her revenge would be slow.

Her nails cut and scratched wherever the elf could find, pinning the guard to the floor and clawing at him until both of them were stained in red. Growling at the lifeless, motionless corpse underneath her, it took a minute for that woman to return to her senses, grey eyes looking confusedly at the scene around her. As a heavy hand landed on her shoulder, she could not help yelping in surprise, leaping forward and turning around to see the proud, yet confused gaze of her companion. She didn't need his comments about the sudden burst of rage, yet it was obvious that he was thankful. As the elf limped over to her, she didn't hesitate before accepting his hand. She knew how to be independent, but this wasn't the right time for such games.

"Flawless as always, My Lady," he murmured, pressing a kiss to her knuckles and running a calloused hand through her hair. "Let us find your swords."

She laughed, shaking her head at his carefree attitude. They both had changed over the last few months, but their fierce loyalty to one another was still present. And, as far as she knew, very few things in life were powerful enough to keep the pair away from each other. Not even the Gods could do it.

AS Afflatus 25 // Member Interview

Thu Jul 25, 2019 2:03 am

    • 1. What is your favorite color?
My favorite color is Orange, however, my favorite color to WEAR and basically buy everything I own in, is Black.
      2. What was your favorite vacation?
When I was younger, almost eight or nine years ago, my best friend and her family took me on a road trip to Florida, where on the way we stopped at a few amusement parks. Once we were in Florida we went to Universal Studios, which would have been the first time I have ever been there, then from there we went on a Caribbean cruise. Fancy dinners and sun tanning, all you can eat and exploring the ship on top of seeing places I've never seen before. Grand Cayman Islands, Cancun and Cozumel Mexico.
      3. What is your favorite music?
Well, I like pretty much everything. Not big on country or rap, although I do have a few songs from either genre somewhere on my iPod. My music ranges from screamo to One Direction, from Pop/Punk to Japanese music, from instrumental music to dub step. I have it all.
      4. What is your favorite scent?
You know those pink peppermint candies you can buy at the dollar store? For some reason, my grandpa's closet smelt like that. His clothes and whatever I was able to keep after he passed. Whenever I smell it, I think of him.
      5. Do you have a favorite dessert?
Well, chips for sure. Depending on my mood, Sweet Chili Heat or Tostitos and Salsa.
      6. What is your favorite holiday?
I really want to say Christmas. I love the festivities and the feeling of it all. The music and the family, the decorations and the movies, but honestly I'll have to go with Halloween, or Samhain. I love creepy things. Whenever I get the chance to buy witches and skulls to decorate my house I take it.
      7. What’s your favorite line from a fictional character?
"The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and… bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant." - 11th Doctor
      8. What’s your favorite writing spot?
On the living room couch with my feet up on the coffee table.
      9. What’s your favorite reading spot?
Well I haven't been able to read a book in years, but when I was back home my favorite reading spot was my dad's leather couch. I'd sit in the corner of it under the lamp and read for hours. When I would do group reading during hangouts, my friends and I would sit in Tim Hortons and read entire novels in one sitting. On several occasions, spending anywhere between 8 and 10 hours there, (they don't mind so long as you keep buying things lol)
      10. What’s your favorite genre to write?
      Post Apocalyptic, Action/Adventure, Romance/Smut
      11. What’s your least favorite genre to write?
Contemporary or slice of life. I get bored. Why would I want to write about normal everyday life when I have to live it. Unless you know, throw a murder in there or a mystery or something to spice it up.
      12. What is your favorite memory?
I have many. My life has been one mess after the other but there are some good memories thrown in there that I cherish. I'll just pick one in memory off the top of my head, my grandpa used to take me bowling every Saturday, God I miss him so much. Our ritual was that when we first got there he would buy me a vanilla sprinkled donut and a pepsi, then he would watch me play and cheer me on and whenever I missed a strike but a few pins he would always shout that I was robbed, instantly making me feel better by believed the game was rigged.
      13. What is your favorite animal?
Well, cats for sure. However if we are talking non domesticated animals? Cows. They are so cute.
      14. What is your least favorite sound?
When someone rubs the palm of their hand on fabric. Like when my boyfriend wipes the crumbs off the couch, or when someone rubs their jeans with their hands. I can't. It's awful. I get goosebumps and I want to throw up.
      15. Who is your favorite author?
I suppose if I were to base this off of one of my favorite series I've read, i'd have to say Alexandra Bracken or Rick Riordan.

AS Afflatus 25 // Character Interview

Thu Jul 25, 2019 3:19 pm

    • Tyler//Original Character//Age 25

    • 1. How would your character feel about babysitting?
It's been almost a lifetime since he has ever seen a kid, the last time he did was when he was one himself. The only reference he has to what a child is like is through some old novels he has been collecting, scraps from the days when they burned down the libraries. If he were to be honest, he wants nothing more than for everything to be the way it was before and if that meant him having to babysit a kid then he would babysit a million of them. Although he has no idea how to do it.
      2. If your character had the chance to take the place of any character in a book, who would it be?
Tyler has only read a few books in his life, all the while teaching himself how to read through trial and error since there is no more education outside of the walled cities. One of his favorites, Tuck Everlasting, a book that is missing a good chunk of pages that he carries in his bag with his own little personal library. "I love the idea of being able to live forever. Living through every different time and watching it all change before your eyes, all while you stay the same..."
      3. What does your character aspire to be?
A husband, a father. A man who is loved and respected by his friends and family. To be the match that lights the flame of rebellion, to take back their old way of life. To have a family again. To find love like in the books he reads.
      4. What are your character’s goals for the future?
To bring on the new world. To lead the people who look for someone to follow.
      5. How does your character handle resolutions?
Calmly. Tyler never lets his emotions get the better of him. He always is collected and thinks first before acting irrationally.
      6. What is your character afraid of?
Failure. Losing the fight against this cause that he is so passionate about, and along the way losing a friend to the war.
      7. What is your character reluctant to tell people?
That he is a hopeless romantic. The guys would just tease him and make fun of him. If he were to be honest, to live the life of the men in the books he reads, a heroic adventure where the good guy always gets the girl. To feel the soft touch of a woman’s lips on his skin, it all excites him.
      8. What is your character’s major flaws?
His hidden anger. Tyler is normally very calm and rational, but when it comes to friends and protecting him, he will go through whatever lengths necessarily to ensure their survival.
      9. How does your character handle confrontation?
Tyler is a strategist, the planner. He is smart and quick thinking. Any confrontation may begin hostile, but by the end of it he is always the one that walks away.
      10. What is something your character can’t stand?
The way this new world treats their woman. Woman are considered a currency, part of the trade. What few were left behind from the raids were left to a world that would use and abuse them. Tyler hated every man that would wrongly put a hand on a woman. That is why as a side goal to their mission is to take down every harem and brothel they can find. Save who they can, even on the outside of the walls.
      11. Who is someone your character can’t stand?
Within the group there are different types of people, all with personalities that Tyler can handle and respect. Dante is quiet, keeps to himself. Mackenzie like to crack jokes and pick fights with Jordan. Jordan is dedicated, head strong, and quite frankly might even have a few screws loose. Harry, well all he goes on about is his home across the ocean, he is timid and a bit spacey, a man who doesn’t think before he speaks and is known as the stupid one of the group. Lane, the flirt. He was openly gay and makes it his job to purposely make them all uncomfortable. The lastly, Charles. After this long, Tyler still can’t find it in him to trust him. It seems that he has ulterior motives when it came to their plans, and that he doesn’t respect who he should.
      12. Does your character have any allergies? Are they life threatening?
Nope. Not that he knows about but it's not like they have Doctors. He hasn't died yet so that's a good sign.
      13. Is your character religious? What religion? How strictly do they follow it?
“I found a bible once, it was pretty boring. I’m not even sure what this religion thing is...”
      14. If your character could redo a moment, what would that be?
The day he discovered that Jordan was not the man he knew and trusted, but rather the woman who he had grown to fall in love with. If he could redo any moment, he would go back to that day and say something, make it known that he could be the one person in this world who would be there for her, but now they are still all secrets.
      15. How does your character show their significant other affection? Their friends?
Tyler is very family oriented. He is protective but yet upholds the position of the team leader. He is the man that gives the orders and makes the plans, and they all listen without doubt. Tyler makes sure his friends are put first and taken care of before himself.
