Editing your AS profile:
For those unaware, you do have the ability to edit your profile to your liking via the UCP (User control panel) that can be found at the top right of your screen under your name drop-down that lists the UCP panel, your profile overview, and the section to log out.
When you open the UCP, there are a few different tabs to sift through, however for the purpose of editing your profile, you will need to select the tab labeled profile. From there, the basic profile information for you to change will open up as well as a tab center to the left with more options to edit your avatar, signature, and account settings.
-Editing your signature is pretty self explanatory, once you click the tab just insert your code as you would a normal post, but beware posting sizes do differ from typical posts as it will shrink text and symbols.
-Editing your avatar is a bit different. Once you click on the tab you will see that the picture you choose must be at or below the dimensions of 150x150, but you can upload it straight from your computer or from a URL.
-Editing your account settings includes things like name, email, and password changes. In order to do this you will need to input your current account password, but you can change it anytime you like.
Site Width Recommendation:
Proper site width is a huge issue among most members in trying to find the right width so the general consensus of code on the site fits. A majority of users seem to use something between 1400-1500 for width, so you may play with that to your liking and see what your screen can handle.

Social Media:
Currently Advanced Scribes has two official social media accounts. A Twitter and a Tumblr. The Twitter can be found @advancedscribe and the Tumblr URL is advancedscribes.tumblr.com
Coding Resources:
Though AS is mostly dedicated to writing, over the years coding within the community has grown more popular and due to this we’ve opened up a few coding pages to help out those wishing to follow down that path as well. If you need help with bbcode, feel free to visit the following links:
A Basic Guide to Coding (A general guide meant to get you started)
The Coding Corner (A more advanced thread offering coding help and tutorials)
How to use bumping. (A helpful guide for bumping threads)

Site Navigation and Information: Other section (Moderated by Global Mods): This board section covers all things not directly roleplay/writing/code related.
  • Announcements: This is where important updates are listed for all members to view by various staff. If you wish to be updated on topics, it's recommended you check back for updates in this board often. Typically members do not post in this area unless a topic requests it.
Afflatus: Every month a new issue of the Afflatus is posted for user enjoyment! This highly recommended for your viewing as it includes tips, shout outs, and games for your enjoyment that can earn you house points.
General: This forum is designed for chatting and talking about various things ranging from advice to sending someone a warm fuzzy. This should not be mistaken for an area to engage in large interests as that belongs in the club section.
Clubs: If you have an interest and want to make a group out of it where you may discuss, talk, etc this is where you would put it. The club section ranges in content from fandoms to those who simply are really obsessed with pizza.
Games: This is pretty self explanatory! If you have a fun game idea whether it be a count thread or something related to Create-A-Clan, this is where you’d go to enjoy and create.
International Board: Do you speak another language or wish to learn? Here you can go to converse with others and learn a little bit more in the language aspect.
Advertisements: Looking to advertise? This section splits up on site advertisement and off-site advertisement for various needs.
    • Listings: Here is where all 1x1 searches go whether it be on the collective thread or your own permanent thread.
External websites: If you wish to advertise something off-site like a discord or another roleplay site, this is where it goes.
Events: All house competitions are held here.
  • 2017: Holds all events from 2017.
2018: Holds all events from 2018.
Creativity (Moderated by Creativity Moderator): Things such as writing not related to roleplays, code, art, and resources are placed here as well as roleplay discussion threads.
  • Share your Writing: If you have writing or drabbles you’d like to place on site, threads can be created here for that purpose.
    • Fanfiction: If your shared writing happens to be a fanfiction, however, this is where it should be placed.
Personal Storage: This storage area is dedicated to code and saving roleplay characters at a members convenience. You can also use this to store coding resources you use.
Writing Resources: Have writing ideas, tips, or more? You can share them with others in this forum and give others a chance to catch on and share your knowledge or gather it if you are looking!
Roleplay Discussions: All discussions for roleplays on site are held here. This can also act as a place to submit character forms for said roleplay.
Art Corner: If you are an artist, this is your own little nook to share what you’ve created with the rest of the site and store it for later use or whatever suits you best.
Coding Shops: Similar to the Art Corner and Writing Resources, this section functions the same but for all coding on site. You can have things coded for you here as well as find useful resources that may help you code your own.

Roleplays (Moderated by Roleplay Mods): This area is for all on site roleplays whether you are creating or joining.
  • Human Realistic: If you have a realistic plot that takes on the real world for your humans, this area is designated just for that.
Human Fantasy/Sci-Fi: If realistic isn’t your taste, this forum is for sci-fi and fantasy or simply things that just don’t cut it for real world settings.
Animals: Tired of roleplaying humans? Are animals your thing? This forum is for ALL animal based roleplays.
One-on-one: For those not interested in group roleplays, this area allows the possibility of seeking out and roleplaying with a single partner to minimize the stress and create time flexibility.
Explicit Roleplays (If granted access): This is the 18+ section for those who wish to roleplay more sensitive and graphic topics that wouldn’t normally suit a younger audience. This caters to group roleplays and 1x1s.

Staff Information and Who to go to: Administrator- Though an administrator oversees final decisions for bigger issues and ideas, going to them for simple questions often isn’t necessary and they should only be contacted as a last resort or if you find a bug/issue with your account. We have a lovely staff all capable of helping before a problem requires admin attention.
Admin Aide- Like the administrator, typical question answering is not advised unless you have any questions about house sorting or there seems to be a bug/issue. However, if you would like access to the Explicit board and are 18+ this is who you go to with a message!
Global Moderator- Though typically questions do not always fall upon them, they do handle spam accounts and deal with quite a few of the reports so if you need anything related, they’re the people to go to.
Overseer- An overseers job is to work with behind the scenes site code as well as any bugs you may come across. If you find an error or bug directly related to the site, please try to message both an Attendant and Overseer to get the issue resolved.
Creativity Moderator- They oversee the creativity boards and all areas within. If you have an issue regarding the creativity board, they are likely your best help however most cases can be handled via reports and contacting an Attendant.
Roleplay Moderator- These moderators watch over all roleplay related forums.Typically there is little reason to seek them out for questions, so do try contacting the Attendants first.
Archivist- An Archivist is responsible for both the majority of the Afflatus and archiving posts, as well as being in charge of sorting/tie breaking messages. If you have any Afflatus related questions that cannot be answered first by an Attendant or something relating to sorting, please do seek them out as well as for having posts moved into archives though this is typically done on its own over time for inactive posts.
Attendants- Attendants are the forefront for all questions! If you need anything, please go to them first and if it’s something that requires the attention of another moderator they will either send you to them or contact them personally and help answer everything they can.
Keepers- If you have any house related questions, your designated house keeper is more than happy to answer anything! Please utilize them first and foremost for related questions.

Reporting Guide:
If you are browsing the forums and happen across something that warrants a report, whether it be an argument, stolen code or writing, inappropriate content, and so on so forth, reports can be made by clicking the ‘!’ exclamation point placed at the top right of every post made. Do keep in mind, however, not everything is going to warrant a report though we do appreciate your efforts. If you see a roleplay under site literacy or on the bridge of it, a report isn’t as necessary considering our roleplay mods are very vigilant in spotting them and may already be watching/handling the issue. Here are just a few examples of things you can and should report! Issues such as harassment, any form of cyberbullying, if any fights break out, plagiarism of forms, roleplay coding, characters, etc, dangerous matters (such as a user implying suicide or any sort of self harm), and spammers (like random posts/PMs or mass-sent PMs).
Posting Issues:
Many people are unsure of whether the 200 word site minimum for roleplay posts is per character or post in general. To clarify, you should aim to post OVER 200 words per CHARACTER. This is a literate site, so keep in mind if you are being warned by a roleplay moderator about your posts it is likely you have dipped below 200 words or are too close to the minimum. Aside from that, people also sometimes have issues with double posting by accident or posting within the wrong area. Please don’t worry about this. If you have made a mistake, typically you are able to correct it by removing your double post or reposting in the correct designated forum. Above in the site navigation section, it better outlines where things should go. If you cannot move/delete the error you made, typically a roleplay moderator or global moderator will gladly help; either shoot them a message or report the post.

1x1 Forums and How they work:
With the separating of the 1x1 forums into two areas, the explicit and the standard, there are new and recurring rules for both. First and foremost, the greatest difference between the two is the included content. The explicit forum was specifically made for sensitive topics ranging from bestiality, incest, vore, as well as extreme topics not suitable for younger members and undesired by some. It is not, however, limited to just kinks and can include themes such as slavery, extreme amounts of gore via plots focusing around it, and more. Due to these types of themes, the 1x1 search threads have also been broken up. You can find the one designated to the explicit board within said forum, but the standard search remains in the same location. All running rules apply to both threads and can be found at the starter post on each thread. If you would like access to the explicit board, please seek out an admin aide and make sure you are 18+.

Houses:
For entering AS members or old returning members, the concept of houses here is a new one and can be quite confusing to understand at first. This addition to the site was added the summer of 2017 and has quickly grown to be a key component for all those who wish to be active in events within the community and more. For those who don't know, houses here on AS are our personalized spin-off of Hogwarts houses and once you are actually sorted you can participate in house events and site-wide events to gain points for your house. Typically the winning house at the end of the year gets a little prize, though this is still a work in progress.

The Sorting Quiz: Found here. When taking the quiz, please make sure to enter the email linked to your AS account. This does not have to be a working email you use anymore as no emails will be sent to it, but this is how you are identified by the house sorting staff to receive your house. It shouldn't take too long to receive a message of your sorting results, though do be patient as it is all done by hand. If you feel as if you've been lost in the system, however, please do contact an Admin Aide or Administrator to get it sorted. Also, be sure to answer as honestly as possible for best sorting results!

The houses: There are a total of four houses you can be sorted into. The following provides what they stand for, their mascot, name, common room, and designated colors.
  • Amaranthine: The house of the phoenix and typically related to the color blue, they are the security seekers. They discern and easily make out the world around them and the organization of it. They use boundaries for protection, and prethink everything. They are functional, thoughtful and hard workers. They have a strong inner strength that rises in times of crisis and heavily believe in second chances and redemption. They are passionate, and enduring.
Halcyon: The house of the unicorn and typically related to the color purple, they are the identity seekers. Also the intuitive thinkers, they see others as a whole person and believe that people are boundless. They do their best to minimize change or aid others in adjusting to it, and they are very empathetic to the emotions of others, always seeking the ideal. Humanitarians and supporters of all living things.
Sagacitas: The house of the kitsune and typically related to the color red, they are the knowledge seekers. Distinctive and complex, they’re in an endless search for clarity and never stop questioning the world around them. Articulate and with a hidden intelligence they tend to withhold their true capabilities until it suits them. Solitary and unique in thought and lifestyle they choose to pursue the greater questions in life rather than follow a norm.
Vipera: The house of the wyvern and typically related to the color green, they are the sensation seekers. Their activators are energy and motion. Confident in their decisions and ambitious, and they seek constant activity and stimulation. preferring a leadership role, they are quick thinkers - fearlessly able to jump into conflict to defend the people that they love and what they believe to be right.
Events: These are the events to be held every year in regards to houses and the point systems as well as a bit of information on each and what they're about.
  • 1x1 Competition: Held at the beginning of the year from January to the end of February, this contest is unique in the way where it is the one competition where you will be able to pair up with members of any house to create your own 1x1 and gather points based on how many pages into the roleplay you get.
Group Roleplay Competition: This event is held from March to the end of May and is broken up into a small group of 6 from each house. Together you will create a plot with a twist to it and at the end of the event time, those who got the furthest in the roleplay will be deemed the winners. Note: as this has limited spots, there will be side events for those not participating to do as a way to earn points.
Summer Prompts: Held from June to the end of August, each day a new prompt will be posted for people to write on in their selected forum. This is an independent competition and those who complete all the prompts will receive a certain amount of bonus points for their house.
Nanowrimo: Lasting through only November, the site allows people to compete in this large scale event by writing a completed story. Rather than the typical event run elsewhere, on site you are allowed to obtain the allotted word count through any means so long as it is your individual work.
Holiday Event: Through December as we are wrapping up the year, the staff creates a random event each year to fill this slot for points. The first year running we had the Mascot Drawing contest, however it will be different for years after.
House Layouts: Each house also has their own official site layout that can be found in UCP under "board preferences." You are welcome to use whatever layout you like best and are not forced to represent your own house through it. This is personally cosmetic and only applied to your account so whatever is most pleasing to your eyes, please do use it!
