AS Afflatus - Issue 26 - Dear Stag

Dear Stag,
What are some quick, easy, and can be put in a bag lunches (without spoilage) for school/work?
- Anonymous Wyvern
  • There are many great options for packing your lunch from home to take to school or work! Some important things to consider are whether you have access and use of a fridge (such as in a work environment) and also if there are microwaves available for use. The latter is something that I have been seeing in schools and workplaces more frequently, so at the very least having access to a microwave should expand your options for what you can take with you!

Any kind of sandwiches with easy fillings (your classic PB&J, or consider such things as: cheese, cream cheese and cucumber, meat and butter etc) is a great place to start. Additionally, you can take a container of pasta with the sauce already mixed in (make sure the lid is tight and to be safe, wrap it in a plastic bag). You can heat it up in the morning, let it cool a bit, then store it in your lunch bag. Then when it's lunch time you can eat it room temperature or warm it up a bit. Another great option is rice along with something else.

Other than main food items, you definitely want to pack some sort of fruit with you. This can be anything. Pears, apples, bananas, oranges, and so forth. Pack some chips or something sweet (or both, who cares) as a snack that you can have if you're hungry earlier than your lunch time or after lunch.

A great thing to invest in for a lunchbox is something that is insulated to that you can keep your hot things hot and your cold things cold.
Dear Stag,
What are some chrome extensions that you would recommend?
- Anonymous Wyvern
  • Some chrome extensions that I use often and recommend are:
    1. Google Docs Offline (so that you can work on things without wifi)
    2. Grammarly Chrome
    3. Popup Blocker Pro
    4. uBlock Origin
    5. Adblock Plus - free ad blocker
    7. ColorZilla
    8. Snap Links Lite

Out of curiosity, how are the 'Featured Works' chosen each month?
  • There is no specific system as to how works are chosen. We encourage members to submit things that caught their attention through the Google Form for the Featured Works. If nothing is chosen, staff goes out to find things that caught their attention.

The Featured Works segment can feature anything from the site. Roleplays, characters, art, personal writing, and so forth. When submitting a featured work, please include the member's url, the url to the post and post title, and state what it is that is being featured. I will notify users that their work has been featured.

When will the results be shared of the survey? Will they ever be shared at all?
  • They will absolutely be shared!! We know it's really important to you guys to see the results and after all, what's the point of a survey if you can't see the results; that's half the fun. They did get put on the backburner for far too long but we are actively working on finishing up some work on them and how to present the information and hope to share with you guys in the next few weeks! Thank you so much for being patient; we are hoping that this experience will help us to create a better process for sharing them next time.

Do you have ideas as to what you would like to see here? Don't be afraid to share through our google form!

Sebastian Vanpelt isn't stupid. He's not. Sure, he might be considering reading an extremely cursed book (no, literally, it's layered with all kinds of nasty enchantments) that's infamous for having driven everyone who's ever read it to insanity and suicide, but he isn't stupid. Just... unstable. He can admit that much.

A few short months ago, Sebastian's sister killed herself. He's been out of orbit ever since. Luna was both his exact opposite and his other half. They completed each other like infinity signs, feeding into and off of one another in a strange, codependent loop that felt never-ending. Until it did. Now Sebastian is untethered and adrift, floating alone in the dark chasm of his sister's vacancy. He hadn't always liked Luna, but he loved her; he feels her absence like a lost limb.

Now, Sebastian stares down at the last book Luna ever read — the thing that cracked open her mind and left her a sobbing, shrieking shell of herself who couldn't look at anyone or anything without being sent into a fit of howling, unintelligible hysterics — and aches. She'd lasted four days, before she... She lasted four days, each worse than the last. Sebastian can't believe he's even considering opening the book's cover, after seeing what it did to Luna.

...But then, what it did to Luna is why he's here at all, isn't it?

For all of their differences and disagreements, Sebastian at least always understood Luna. No matter what laws of nature she distorted or moral lines she crossed, Luna could always explain why. Often with flawed, illogical reasoning, but reasoning all the same. At the end of Luna's life, there was no order. She didn't even have rhyme, let alone reason. Sebastian doesn't understand, can't fathom how anything could reduce his callous, apathetic, inquisitive, brilliant sister to such a state.

Curiosity is the ruin of every Vanpelt. The pursuit of answers destroys them all. Sebastian knows this. It destroyed his father, and his sister, and now Sebastian wants it to destroy him.

This was the end. The crackling and fizzing of electric currents from frayed wires along with the chirps of cicadas on the lazy midsummer night were the only sounds that filled the air, paired with Soren’s quiet breathing. So many things had happened in the past hour, he could hardly believe his current situation. Time flew, and he missed 11pm and the cloying emotions it had brought with it.

Only an hour ago, his arms had been draped across Angel’s shoulder, back pressed against smooth beige-painted walls as he returned the sweet kisses pressed upon his lips, a voice of a deep honey timbre whispering to him mere nothings saccharine enough to make the chestnut-haired male’s legs go weak. There had been a moment of silence, like the entire universe was standing at the edge of a crevice, ready to capsize into the darkness or become light enough to fly, where silence condensed the world into the expanse of skin above Soren’s exposed collarbones where Angel’s lips were leaving burning constellations of warmth that the male knew would forever be imprinted in his mind.

Only an hour ago, the two had fallen into bed together, laughter tinkling in the still night air as they tangled themselves together, still letting wisps of praises fall from their lips that occasionally met. He still remembered the way moonlight had filtered through the sliver of the curtains that hadn’t been drawn all the way, swathing angel’s figure in a delicate cobalt light and painting their room cerulean as the distant sounds of the city living at night managed to creep through. He remembered the whispered “You’re beautiful,” paired with yet again another syrupy kiss gently situated on Soren’s forehead by Angel in a way that makes sparkles dance under his skin, causing his chest to have ricocheted from his stomach to his gut. Angel’s kisses always made him think he must be made of paper inside, because that’s all it has ever taken, his lover’s lips against his in a way that is supposed to be soft but creates more sparkles than a clash, to set him on fire. The warmth of the gesture, no matter how small, never failed to seep through the fabric of his loose, milky t-shirt and the skin and the bone, to reach his marrow, and set it ablaze. The younger’s touches were just addicting like that. The hazel-haired male doubted he’d ever get enough of it.

AS Afflatus - Issue 15 - Reminders & Point System

Tue Aug 06, 2019 11:09 am

Image x
Just a couple of reminders for the Afflatus! x
1. Any entry submitted through the Google form is worth 5 points. Things that will be submitted through the Google form are:

xxxxxxxa. Dear Stag submissions
xxxxxxxb. Prompt Suggestions
xxxxxxxc. Featured Works Nominations
xxxxxxxd. Anonymous Compliments
xxxxxxxe. Member Corner Submissions
xxxxxxxf. Question Submissions
xxxxxxxg. Suggestions/Questions for the Afflatus or site

2. Dear Stag can feature anything you want to ask. This can be writing tips, life tips, advice, and so forth. Keep in mind that the Afflatus is posted once a month, so things that need to be answered urgently are not best to submit. Additionally, we are not professionals, so heavy matters should be discussed with a trusted adult. We will do our best to answer each submission every issue, but may have to save other matters for later issues.

3. Dear Stag submissions should be submitted by the end of the second week of the month, so that there is enough time to provide an adequate response to the submission.

4. The Featured Works segment can feature anything from the site. Roleplays, characters, art, personal writing. When submitting a featured work, please include the member's url, the url to the post and post title, and state what it is that is being featured. I will notify users that their work has been featured.

5. When submitting an anonymous compliment, please include username and link to their profile. I notify these users after each issue is posted so that they know they've received a compliment and it makes it easy to track them down in case usernames are changed!

6. When posting submissions to the thread, please make sure the name of the submission is in the title. So, if it's a character interview, please mention that in the title. If it is an activity, please put that in the title. However, it is not a big deal if it is forgotten, though it can clear up any potential confusion.

7. Please post each submission to the thread in separate posts. This makes tallying points much easier.

8. Remember, you can post up to two (2) character interviews/otp quizzes per issue and only one prompt per issue.

9. You are welcome to submit anything to the Member Corner, within reason. Book reviews, recipes, and anything else you can think of. Not everything will be able to used, but will certainly still count for points and saved for future use! The Member Corner will also be used to address any feedback received through the Google form.

10. At the end of the month I will post the following on the thread: "Any posts made after this will not count towards points." I will be trying to stay consistent with this and plan on doing this on the last day of every month by 11:30 PM CST time. Please note that if this doesn't happen for a day (or more) then you can assume it's fair game to submit more things to the thread, since it is likely taking some time to get the next issue out. The Google form, however, will be closed the night before the next issue.
